A Warm Welcome: Boarding Kicks Off the Year with Fun and Friendship

04 Feb 2025

The start of the School year is always an exciting time, but for our new Year 7 Boarders, it marks the beginning of a journey filled with new experiences, friendships, and opportunities. Over the past week, Shore’s Boarding community has embraced the newest members of School House, Barry House, Robson House, and Hodges House, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable transition into Boarding life.

Our Year 7s arrived with their families to unpack and settle into School House, ready to begin their adventure. The week was packed with activities, from friendly games of ping pong, billiards, and cards to energetic rugby practice on the lawn. Meals were a highlight, with the boys getting hands-on, cooking up BBQs and hearty dinners that brought everyone together. Robson House wasted no time getting into the spirit of Boarding life with a vibrant Mexican feast hosted by Ms Power, setting the tone for a weekend of fun. School House boys embraced the Shore Boarding tradition, kicking off their weekend with a cruise exploring the indigenous heritage of our harbour. Saturday was filled with Sport, followed by a movie night featuring Remember the Titans and a delicious dessert. Barry House welcomed new members at a relaxed movie night with pies and sausage rolls, and homemade butter pecan ice cream fresh from their own ice-cream maker, while Hodges House kicked off their year with a crowd-pleasing Friday Feed - tacos for all! The start of the year also brought a flurry of birthdays, with celebrations for Sid, Henry, Darcy, and Christian. As with all Houses, the highlight of the weekend was the Raging Waters excursion, where Boarders from across the School shared in the thrill of water slides and plenty of laughs - a fitting start to a year of adventure though with their Boarding families.

Adjusting to Boarding can be a daunting experience, but thanks to a welcoming community and a week packed with fun and friendship, our new Boarders are already settling into their new home away from home. With support from older students and housemates, they are quickly finding their place within the Shore family—ready to make lifelong mates and unforgettable memories.
