Our Preparatory School North Sydney campus caters for boys from Year 3 to Year 6 and is located on Edward Street, adjacent to our Senior School campus.

These state-of-the-art facilities were designed after extensive research in Australia and overseas. Conceived and built around a beautiful heritage building, Upton Grange, this blend of old and new aesthetics was named after Shore’s fourth headmaster who founded the Preparatory School in 1926.

It elegantly captures our philosophy of combining a traditional approach with the most contemporary teaching methods.

Philosophy and Learning

Within our supportive Christian community, our Preparatory School has fostered an inclusive learning environment that promotes the wellbeing and achievement of all the boys in our care.

It is our fundamental belief that every child can make a unique contribution to both the School and the wider community.

To that end, we are dedicated to nurturing a love of learning, a consideration of others, a curiosity about life and a desire to find meaning and purpose.

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Shore Preparatory School is a candidate school* for the PYP. The School is pursuing authorisation as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy - a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education - that we believe is important for our students.

The PYP is a student-centred approach to education for children in the Primary years of schooling, reflecting education research, thought leadership and experience derived from IB World Schools. The framework ensures high-quality education, grounded in rigorous academic principles. It guides students to become principled, independent and active learners through a holistic approach.

Shore Prep’s trial implementation of PYP commences Semester 2, 2025 and the school is working towards recognition by the IB as an authorised provider of the PYP.

*Only schools authorised by the International Baccalaureate can offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorisation will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org

Literacy

Literacy is the foundation of any educational programme, and the Prep School places great emphasis on language, comprehension and self-expression.

Our modern library is a wonderful environment in which the boys can develop a love of reading and enjoy books from a wide variety of genres. And within our specialist facilities we also have a Learning Enrichment Room.

Literacy

Creative Arts

A distinct feature of the Preparatory School is our creative arts programme. The boys experience a wide range of artistic stimuli. Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama are integrated into the regular timetable and curriculum.

All are taught by specialist teachers who bring experience and expertise in these fields.

Creative Arts

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Mathematical proficiency and problem solving is of great importance in the Preparatory School.

Our learning programmes have been designed to embrace relevant technology that promote digital literacy and performance. With Robotics and Coding now integrated into the curriculum, the Preparatory School has a STEM Hub and Science laboratory, and each boy is assigned their own device.

These resources, supported by specialist ICT and Science teachers, greatly enhance the learning experience within our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programmes.
