Old Boys’ Union Leads Inspiring Career Pathways Month for Year 10 Students

30 May 2025

The Old Boys’ Union partnered with Shore this past month to deliver an outstanding Career Pathways Programme to more than 140 Year 10 students.

Spanning five major industry sectors—Communications, Marketing and Sales; Construction and Property; Business and Economics; Health and Science; and Engineering and IT—the programme connected students with over 40 alumni hosts, who generously shared their time, expertise, and real-world experience.

"It was a pleasure to be able to contribute... I wish this was around back in my time."
— Dr Chao Wang, Neurologist (’07)

Each session offered an engaging look into industry-specific career paths, current trends, and the personal stories behind professional success. From understanding the power of networking to hearing what it takes to thrive in different fields, students left each session inspired and better informed about their futures.

It was great to help them understand the many avenues within Construction and Property and to also connect with other Old Boys.
— Mr Xavier Pratt, Associate, Interior Architecture (’12)

More than a careers event, the programme fostered connections between past and present students, strengthening the bonds that make our Shore community so unique.
We extend our sincere thanks to every Old Boy who took part in this initiative. Your willingness to give back has made a lasting impact and highlighted the power of alumni support.

We’re excited about the many ways our alumni community continues to grow and connect. Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to get involved as we celebrate our School’s rich legacy and look ahead to an inspiring future.

Many thanks for organising these sessions! I am very grateful that my son has this opportunity. It is so tricky for boys to work out their passions and purpose in life… and I believe the opportunity to hear from the experiences of Old Boys is a fantastic opportunity to nudge them in the right direction!
